Memoirs Of A Geisha

Arthur Golden's book - stunning! This is a novel sensation! Of course the book I bought and read after seeing the film, but it only improved its perception.
When opened the book, I already knew the story, but it only spurred my interest. The story is on behalf of Sayuri and begins: "Suppose that you and I were sitting in a quiet room overlooking a garden, chatting and sipping at our cups of green tea while we talked about something that had happened a long while ago..."  Indeed, you have that feeling as if you are really sitting in a quiet room and sipping tea, listening to the story of a Geisha. You can immediately see that the book is going to be interesting, and you cannot say this about every book.
This book tells a story about a little girl Chiyo, which because of her unusual gray eyes gets in the house for geisha. Because of her vigour (Chiyo was born in the year of the monkey), she gets into different stories, falls in love, loses relatives, learning arts of geisha, understands the science of success and wisdom.
I really liked the story line. The turn of events is sometimes difficult to predict. The historical details in this book are very important. It was interesting to learn about life in Japan in the period of war. But the most exciting part is follow the heroine trough her way from a simple girl to a geisha Sayuri. Get to know  the behavioural traditions of the profession, its surprises, discoveries, joys and sadness.
After reading Arthur Golden's you begin to look differently at sumo, clothing and beauty of the Japanese geisha, their ways to attract a man. The writer presents us his work that way, when after reading it we can better understand the actions of the Japanese, as well as their viewpoint.
