Modernism/Postmodernism
The term "modernism" is came from the
French word for "new" and indicates a direction which originated in
the late XIX century and is associated with the global crisis of European
culture. Modernist approach to creativity is based on the subjective perception
of the world. Postmodernism has been named after the new aesthetic revolution
that took place in Europe in the 1960-70 and determined the main direction of
development of modern philosophy, art and science.
Postmodernism emerged as the antithesis of modernism.
Modernism is the last synthetic art style, uniting architecture, painting,
sculpture together. Originally it appeared in the architecture, then stepped
into the art and literature. Modern arose at the same time in several European
countries, but its completed its form in Russia. "Marxism
has complex relationships to modernism and postmodernism. It is both a product
of the epoch of modernity and a systematic critique of some of the most
fundamental features of modernity, such as capitalism and individualism." But modernism - not only the
artistic style, but also the perception of the world, the culture of thinking,
revelling itself not only in art but also in the social life. Originally,
"turned inside out" architectural thinking. If earlier architect drew
first general plan of the building, painted facades and then mapped out the
location of the rooms, then in modernism the interior and bedrooms became most
important. The main strength of this architecture - the convenience of home.
